Seven Ways To Improve SEO On Your Wordpress Site - Margaret Buj - Interview Coach

Seven Ways To Improve SEO On Your Wordpress Site WordPress is popular for a reason. This content management system is easy to use for beginners, and offers great tools to improve the quality of your website, from design to SEO. If you’re not sure how to get the best SEO options from your WordPress site, use this simple tips to improve your search rankings.   Use an SEO agency to build your SEO strategy. SEO requirements change a lot, and keeping up with the constant changes in search engine algorithms is difficult, especially if SEO isn’t in your area of expertise. An agency will be up to date with any changes and will know the best way to optimise your site for ranking.   Keep an eye on your site loading speed. Slow loading can cause real issues. Not only is it off putting for a visitor to your site, but it makes them more likely to click away without visiting other pages, driving up your site’s bounce rate. Google factors site speed into your search rankings, and will favour sites that are faster to load. Make sure your site host is reliable, so you know you’ve got a speedy server behind you.     Prevent search engines from indexing your site before it’s ready to be seen. While you’re working on setting up your site, you’ll be making a lot of changes. This looks bad to any human visitors if they arrive on site while you’re moving things around, and it also looks bad to Google, as you’ll likely be changing site structure and creating errors. In your WordPress settings, you’ll find an option that disallows search engines from indexing your site. Tick the box by that option, and change your site around as much as you like without causing your rankings to suffer. When you’re ready for the site to go public, uncheck the option, and your site will start to be indexed by the search engines.   Install an .xml sitemap plugin. With a sitemap plugin, Google can see your whole site structure, and find every page, making the indexing of your site much faster, getting your ranking more quickly.   Install an SEO plugin. The best plugins for SEO will do a lot of the hard work for you, and help you to remember best practice. Use the plugin to manage metadata, no indexing, broken link redirection, speed up your site, manage links and more.     Block spam comments. Spam comments don’t look good, to search engines or to site visitors. They’re annoying for users, so should be blocked or deleted as soon as you spot them. Spam that shares links to questionable, low quality sites can hurt your search rankings, as Google will see it as you leaving up links to bad content. Use internal links. For any new piece of content you create, try to link it to other, older relevant content already on your site. This helps Google to find more pages on your site, improving your overall site rankings. It also helps to keep people on your site for longer, as they move around to different pages.

5 Reasons You Shouldnt Freeze Your Job Search During The Holidays - Work It Daily

5 Reasons You Shouldnt Freeze Your Job Search During The Holidays - Work It Daily 5 Reasons You Shouldnt Freeze Your Job Search During The Holidays - Work It Daily Planning to hold off on job searching until January? Think employers don’t hire during the holiday months? You’re mistaken if you believe companies quit looking for talent this time of year. While plenty of people start to back off on job searching in November and December, you can benefit from continuing to put time and effort into your hunt for a great opportunity. Consider these five significant reasons you’ll miss out (big time) if you freeze your job search during the holidays: 1. Employers Are (Still!) Hiring Just like any other part of the business, hiring still goes on late in the year. Operations, mergers, production, orders, service, buyouts, and projects are always running in most companies. In fact, some industries may even have more significant needs during the holiday season, as major transactions and deals are often negotiated during what others might consider downtime. Back in my IT management and recruiting days, we focused more on January projects and planning for resource needs than holiday vacations. If your expertise includes acquisitions, sales, manufacturing oversight, or technology automation, you could be in particularly high demand as a skilled leader or executive (even more so at this time of year). 2. Budget Requirements Must Be Met Both end-of-year budgets and new-year headcount forecasting can drive hiring during the holiday season. For example, a company may have just received approval to hire a new Director of IT in January. When will they most likely start the hiring cycle? December. The typical hiring cycle for an executive can take weeks, if not months. Employers anticipating the need for new sales leaders, for example, may need to initiate their hiring process by the end of the year to get a new hire onboarded by February. Therefore, sending your newly polished leadership resume out to companies of interest to you can pay off quickly, especially if they’re in a hiring cycle and you’re the most qualified â€"and interested â€" applicant. 3. Everyone Else Is Lying Low Less competition from other candidates means less resumes clogging employer inboxes and Applicant Tracking Systemsâ€"and more attention for you. Of course, you’ll want to focus on both applying and diligently following up with employers during this time. While others are focused on the season, you can also get ahead of the hiring game by setting a Google alert for companies in your industry. Signing a new contract, closing on an acquisition, opening a division, or releasing a new product are items to watch out for, as these activities can translate into a need for more employees. Research potential contacts inside target employers, and send a letter of inquiry that describes your ROI based on their recent activity. Keep your LinkedIn Profile ready for the once-over from employers as well. You may find that a short e-mail or call can demonstrate interest and prompt them to bring you in for a meeting (or a hiring decision!). 4. Opportunities To Network Are Abundant Think about it: what other time of the year will you walk into a room full of company executives, partners, and other decision-makers? You can, of course, research companies whose managers you hope to talk with, and mention industry happenings of shared interest during an event. (You already know that networking isn’t asking for a job, but offering value to others, while building awareness of your value proposition.) Although you shouldn’t monopolize a holiday gathering by talking shop, you can offer to meet for coffee or after-work activitiesâ€"perhaps looking ahead to other professional events, industry conferences, or seminars during which you can connect. (See Party Your Way to a New Job: Holiday Networking for some great ideas.) The holiday season also makes it easier to get back in contact with former colleagues. You can send a brief message through LinkedIn or an e-mail, touching base and perhaps scheduling a time to meet for lunch. These conversations can turn up valuable intelligence on happenings in your industry. 5. Recruiters Are Staying Alert For Jobs And Candidates Alike Like other businesses that don’t take a holiday, recruiters are particularly watchful for end-of-year hiring needs from their clients (employers). What does this mean for you? If you’ve put off contacting a recruiter until now, don’t wait until they’re flooded with calls and inquiries during January. Reach out with a short note on LinkedIn, send an e-mail with your resume, or give them a call to find out if their clients are in need of your talent. Don’t forget to make a compelling case for the value-add you offer as a new leader or executive, and be sure to stay on their radar for new opportunities. In short, the holidays can be a perfect time to accelerate your job search, rather than putting the freeze on your activities. Get a jump on the competition â€" and stay top-of-mind at your target employers â€" by ramping up your search during the end-of-year holiday season instead of waiting it out. Enjoy this article? I Went From NASA, to Stay-at-Home Momhood, to My Dream Job  Heres How

I Went From NASA, to Stay-at-Home Momhood, to My Dream Job Heres How Michelle Seabourn may be an account specialist in global supply chain who got her start at NASA, but the approach she takes to her first task of the day waking up teenagers is decidedly less scientific.I try to wake them up by singing annoying songs, Seabourn, who lives with her family in Connecticut, recently joked. I usually have to make many repeat attempts before theyre fully awake. For several years, her day would then unfold with a predominant focus on family responsibilities, as Seabourn took an extended career break to stay home with her kids. But in 2018, following a stint in business consulting for social enterprises in Asia, she made a full-time return to a career in supply chain by joining Pratt Whitney, a subsidiary of United Technologies Corporation (UTC). Today, shes thrilled to walk into an office each morning where she says the culture is positive and life-giving.The culture of support and learnin g, she added, has made a world of difference in overcoming the uncertainty that so often accompanies a significant life change like returning to the workforce. And nowhere is evidence of this support mora clearly demonstrated than in UTCs Re-Empower Program, a career re-entry initiative the company launched in partnership with iRelaunch and the Society of Women Engineers. As a participant of the paid, 16-week program herself, Seabourn was able to receive coaching, work experience, and mentorship, including from company leaders. Though she says the program was such a gift overall, one of the pieces she personally found the most impactful was a workshop on elevator pitches during Re-Empowers orientation. This exercise boosted my confidence and changed my perspective. Its easy to focus only on the deficits of your skills when returning from a long career break, and this can negatively affect your confidence at times when you need it most, she said. The Re-Empower orientation speakers and activities made it clear that the things we learned and experienced during our career break are the very things that tischset us up for success.Today, shes applying her unique background and perspective with confidence to the aerospace industry as a full-time Pratt Whitney employee. And its the day-to-day opportunities for collaborating and solving problems with others, she added, that make this career move all the more gratifying.I love working with people to identify and solve problems together, and I also like working together toward a common, worthwhile goal, she said. This world is made of beautiful people and I like being part of a company that makes it possible to connect cultures and ideas through the quality products we make.In an effort to pay it forward, Seabourn also shared some of the biggest takeaways shes learned from her experience re-entering the workforce for other caregivers who are considering doing the same.1. Take advantage of online resources.Take advantage of online classes through sites like Coursera and Lynda, and familiarize yourself with the latest versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or any other software used in your industry. You could also subscribe to industry journals to get up-to-date on the current lingo and news stories.2. Write an elevator pitch.Write a 30-second elevator pitch to state what kind of job you are looking for. I found it helpful to think about what motivates me to contribute my best and what things energize me. That helped me identify what types of companies and roles I would like to pursue.3. Notify your network.Tell them that youre on the job hund and clearly state what you want to do. Networks tend to turn up more solid leads than online job search applications alone4. Once youve landed your next role, see your colleagues as a resource.Make a genuine effort to know your colleagues. You will have many questions as you re-enter, and meeting people along the way can help you feel more connected and engaged. These people become sources of encouragement and invaluable knowledge as you adjust to your new role.5. And finally give yourself some grace.Be confident in who you are. You may need to catch up on specific skills, but you have a wealth of experience outside of the industry that others do not. These things are what make you adaptable and give you a unique perspective on situations you will face in the workforce. Give yourself grace to make mistakes and have courage to keep showing up the next day, ready to learn. With patience and dedication, you will soon find yourself in a distribution policy where you can again be a productive contributor.--Fairygodboss is proud to partner with UTC.
